Extracting expertise from experts: Methods for knowledge acquisition
نویسنده
چکیده
Knowledge acquisition is the biggest bottleneck in the development if expert systems. Fortunately, the process of translating expert knowledge to a,form suitable for expert system development can benefit from methods developed by cognitive science to reveal human knowledge structures. There are two clusses of t h i w investigative methods, direct and indirect. We provide reviews, criteria fo r ’ use, and literature sources for all principal methods. Direct methods discussed are: inret-views, questionnaires, observation of tusk perjbrmance, protocol analysis, interruption analysis, closed curves. and inferential flow analysis. Indirect methods include: multidimensional scaling, hierarchical clustering, Kenera1 weighted network.s, ordered trees, and repertory grid analysis.

2. Types of Procedural Knowledge Procedural knowledge forms an important part of expertise. This paper describes a system which allows domain experts to themselves enter procedural Knowledge into a knowledge base. The system, a stylized form of scientific English embodied within the Unit System for knowledge acquisition and representation, has been used successfully within the domain of molecul...
متن کاملExpertise Transfer and Complex Problems: Using AQUINAS as a Knowledge-Acquisition Workbench for Knowledge-Based Systems
Acquiring knowledge from a human expert is a major problem when building a knowledge-based system. Aquinas, an expanded version of the Expertise Transfer System (ETS), is a knowledge-acquisition workbench that combines ideas from psychology and knowledge-based systems research to support knowledge-acquisition tasks. These tasks include eliciting distinctions, decomposing problems, combining unc...

Without question, the educational research community has garnered much from past decades of expert/novice theory and research. Framed largely by artificial intelligence and information-processing theory, those traditional research programs initially took shape in the 1970s and 1980s around the problem-solving performance of experts. The primary goal was to determine the characteristics and acti...

متن کاملA Delphi-based approach to developing expert systems with the cooperation of multiple experts
Knowledge acquisition has been a critical bottleneck in building knowledge-based systems. In past decades, several methods and systems have been proposed to cope with this problem. Most of these methods and systems were proposed to deal with the acquisition of domain knowledge from single expert. However, as multiple experts may have different experiences and knowledge on the same application d...
